HOWDY YALL, decided to throw up the silly story of my build. Probably not so much silly and more normal but here ya go.
As it sits now it's got a stock 1jz gte with a future fab downpipe. W58 that i pieced together from a mk4 and mk3 Supra. (I was told mk4 w58 had better guts, but the mk4 w58 housing was busted). Full Xcessive catalogue, all suspension links, bushings ,brackets, RCA, sub frame stifiner, and BC coils. Wiring harness done by PanicWire for the stock ecu to work with the stock body harness in the x8.
It started in 2014 I grabbed a 1989 Toyota Cressida from a local guy here in Sacramento. He had pulled out the rear seats in prep for putting a cage in it. But other than that it was completely stock.
It started out as a 2jz NA swap and I had future plans to turbo it. As far as installation went it was super easy. There are so many kits out there for this swap it's more difficult to choose what part manufacturer you want to use vs the "how the hell do I make this swap go in there". I used xcessive motor mounts and trans mounts with wiring done by PanicWire to run a AEM ecu. I never got photos of the chassis or suspension work but as I said up at the top. It's full xcessive catalogue.
After I got the 2jz in and running (which it wasn't doing very well). I cruised it around for awhile and did a couple of events in it. Even did a Final bout special stage where the clutch decided to dissolve into dust.
After all that fun I thought it wasn't running the best it could and I believed it to be a head issue so I decided it was TURBO TIMEEEE. I had always planned to toss a turbo into it so I had the bits and bobs already in place as far as the harness and oil supply.
Unfortunately I was a dingle when putting the head back on and didn't notice that I had gotten the timing off a couple of teeth. Not realizing that while me and Lamar were trying to street tune something gave out and it blew a bunch of oil out onto the header catching fire melting the harness and a couple of other things. Defeated I gave up on the 2j and listened to Lamar when he told me to put a stock 1jz gte in it and leave it alone. Best decision I made with this car.
Other than the intake piping and the future fan down pipe it is a stock 1j and it has been great so far. I have only had to change the water pump and do basic maintenance. And add a nice radiator overflow tank ;)
After all that I have been driving it around happily other than the tires debeading when they feel like it. Or it might have been that I had the same 69 year old 215x35s running on a 9.5 wide wheel. But I'm lucky I have the coolest friends and they got me an amazing wedding gift. So now I'm back crusing around without worrying about that.
Hell yeah, I need a ride in this thing
