Hello everyone! I am going to start writing a build log on my newly acquired 1991 Nissan 240sx coupe. This will be the start of the build log, I'll have to dig up pictures and content from the last couple of months.
Back in October 2023, I stumbled upon an s13 for sale. Listed on marketplace, I was excited to find out that the seller was about 18 minutes from my house!
Turns out, the car has been sitting since 2018 (roughly 5 years). The guy that bought it, purchased it around his 18th birthday. He drove it around for a bit and said he blew the head gasket. He decided to pull the motor and attempt to rebuild it himself. From what I could tell, a machine shop machined the head, the flywheel, maybe checked the block. The short block was reassembled with ka24e pistons. He included a stage 3 clutch kit, new ISR engine mounts, transmission mount, brand new in box ISR coilovers, 5 speed transmission, new master clutch cylinder, ARP studs, full OEM gasket kit, OEM Nissan timing kit, and ISR short shifter.
Since I recognized the ka24e pistons, I knew I wasn't about to trust whoever assembled the rotating assembly... a high comp dual cam would be cool but I don't want to deal with the high octane gas. I decided if I'm going to use this block, I'll have to throw forged internals at it for a turbo setup. That will be for later down the line.
For now, I bought a crusty but fairly clean coupe. It needs a lot of TLC. My goal with this car is to keep it near stock... full interior, street car... and here's the best part: it has power doors! It has power sunroof! It has cruise control! It has AC! It even has a functional HUD!
Granted... I need to figure out why the cruise control isn't engaging, and I need to recharge the AC system (hopefully there's no leaks?) The AC has new fittings on the lines, so I wonder if it's been converted?
More updates to follow.
My friend David sent me a DM saying he was prepping a friends hatch for a swap. Low and behold he offered me a well maintained 150k KA24DE. After glancing over the motor, I noticed it had a lot of OEM Nissan parts on it. I took a risk and said fuck it, it's gotta be a good healthy motor. Time to ruin it.
The previous owner of my coupe sold me the car with some new goodies. Since I had a stage 3 clutch sitting fresh in the box, I decided to throw that in.
Phase 1 of the coupe will be to get it running, healthy, and check over all its vitals.
